The story
Marta was born in Cagliari in 1996. At eight she steps onto a windsurf board: she had tried other sports before, including rhythmic gymnastics, then the sea won. The Gulf of Cagliari becomes her training ground.
Since 2015 she has raced for the Guardia di Finanza's Fiamme Gialle sports group. At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics (held in 2021) she finishes fourth in the RS:X, one step from the podium.
Then she changes board and moves to the iQFoil, foiling windsurf. In 2022 she becomes world champion in Brest; on 3 August 2024, in Marseille, she wins Olympic gold: the first ever Olympic champion in the class, and Italy's first windsurfing gold since Alessandra Sensini at Sydney 2000.
After the gold come the CONI Golden Collar 2024, the FIV Sailor of the Year 2025 title and, in September 2026, her appointment as Ambassador for Sports Diplomacy at the Farnesina.
